Update on Algae Permits & Membership

While the CLIA board is pleased to share that we’ve passed the 51% threshold needed to treat our lake for algae, it took us significantly longer to reach that goal than in years past.  As of the last board meeting on March 5, only 64% of lake residents responded to our letter (and subsequent emails) compared with 72% last year.
Since there was minimal snow cover this past winter (aka lots of extra UV light piercing the surface of the lake), we anticipate worse than average aquatic plant growth, and therefore the possible need for extra treatments, as well as the first campaign to treat milfoil in several years. We are also committed to using our budget to build community (i.e. our Annual Meeting, annual picnic, ice out contest, etc.) and beautify our lakeshore, and hope we will receive the support necessary to fulfill these goals.
If for whatever reason you have put off renewing your membership in the Crystal Lake Improvement Association, we hope you will help us live up to our name and mission.
On a positive budgetary note, several members generously gave more than the requested $70 annual dues, which the board pledges to steward responsibly.
