Weed and Algae Treatment Update

You should start seeing harvesters on the lake as soon as this weekend.  As you know, the City of Burnsville handles the harvesting of the lake, UP TO 150 feet out from your shoreline.  The area from your shoreline to that 150-foot mark is up to you to handle.  Some residents hire the same harvesting crew as the city.  Other options for resident treatment include:  hiring treatment companies, hiring individuals, leaving the weeds.

The CLIA works to address the algae issues on the lake.  When will the algae treatment occur?  The algae treatment cannot occur until after the harvesting is completed.  Lake Restoration is our chosen vendor for this year’s algae treatment.  They will be treating residential shore lines around June 13 (weather permitting).  They will then evaluate the algae situation and determine best time to treat.  As of now they are expecting to begin sometime around June 20.

Don’t be surprised if the algae gets worse in the next week. With temperatures rising in the near future, it is prime time for algae to bloom.  The CLIA Algae and Weed committee, along with Lake Restoration, will be monitoring the algae and address it throughout the summer.
