Michael Hughes (CLIA Board Member) participated in the Burnsville Parks and Natural Resources Commission meeting earlier this evening in which the Commission voted 3-2 to approve the proposal to move the buoys and allow boaters to beach their boats at the North end of Crystal Lake Beach.

The discussion about this proposal was more controversial than expected.  There were several concerns expressed:

  • People who try to swim between Crystal Lake Beach and Picnic Island would be endangered by boats approaching Crystal Lake beach.
  • People who beach their boats might interfere with people who fish at the North end of Crystal Lake beach.
  • People who launch their boats at the public boat launch and park their vehicles and trailers there might then beach their boats at Crystal Lake beach and stay at Crystal Lake beach all day.  This could unnecessarily tie up a vehicle and trailer parking spot at the public boat launch.

The proposal was approved for the 2018 season as a one year experiment.  It will be reevaluated at the end of the 2018 season based on input the city staff receives from people who use Crystal Lake beach.
